ZURICH'S ATTRACTIONS

Opera house
The Opernhaus Zürich is one of Switzerland’s and Europe’s best-known opera houses. Under director Alexander Pereira, Zurich’s most-visited cultural venue gains yearly in international acclaim.

Bahnhofstrasse
Zurich’s main shopping street is one of the nicest in all of Europe. It is full of elegant boutiques with international designer fashion, large department stores, antique shops, and small shops offering high-quality merchandise (for example shoes, furs, accessories, porcelain, jewelry and watches). The Bahnhofstrasse can be easily reached on foot from the hotel.

Grossmünster Church
With its two double towers, the Grossmünster Church is the best-known landmark in the city. The view from the tower over the old town and lake is wonderful. Under good conditions it is possible to see 3,000 meters high mountains behind the far end of the lake. Distance from the hotel: approx. 2 km.

Fraumünster church
The Fraumünster church is another landmark. The north window in the transept is by Augusto Giacometti. The stained glass is the work of Marc Chagall. The Fraumünster church is located approx. 0.7 km from the hotel.

City hall (Rathaus)
The baroque-style city hall is known for its lavish ornamentation. Its interior is well-preserved. The city hall is located less than 1 km from the hotel.

Art museum (Kunsthaus)
The most important collection of Alberto Giacometti’s work can be found in the Zurich Kunstmuseum. Artists such as Picasso, Monet and Chagall and Swiss artists Pipilotti Rist and Per Fischli / David Weiss are also represented. Of international artists, it boasts the largest Munch collection outside of Norway. It is located 2.0 km from the hotel.

Lake Zurich
The lakeside promenade is ideal for relaxing walks or a jog. Only a short distance on foot from the hotel.

Limmat
The Limmat river flows right through Zurich. Its numerous bridges offer good views of downtown. Only a short distance on foot from the hotel.

Old town (Altstadt)
The old part of town is characterized by traffic-free pedestrian zones, narrow alleys and contemporary architecture. Evenings there is much activity in the numerous cafès, bars and restaurants. The old town can be reached on foot from the hotel in just a few minutes.

German is spoken in Zurich and the surrounding cantons. Other official languages of Switzerland are French, Italian and Romansch. English is often spoken in larger cities.

Visa
All residents of the European Union and U.S. can enter Switzerland with a valid passport or personal identification card to stay for up to ninety days. All other countries should contact their nearest Swiss embassy or consulate to find out which documents are necessary for entering Switzerland.
